Chashama, New York
Double Negative was not an exhibition that didn’t consist entirely of works made with words and words made with works. It wasn’t not about miscommunication, logical fallacies and the failure of language to structurally disclose precision/ambiguity and it didn’t bring together a diverse group of artists, writers and performers who weren’t working around these themes. The show ceased to not exist at ChaShaMa 320 West 23rd St. from March 5–31, 2019.
This exhibition about art, text and the unreliability of language was curated and produced independently by Darling Green. Double Negative included 69 works by 34 artists, most of which were shown in New York for the first time. Along with the exhibition we presented 4 public programs entitled Direction, Transcription, Promotion and Agreement that explored themes associated with art and text.
